Why Death Magnetic sucks
I really find it hard to believe that Metallica’s latest album Death Magnetic is being glorified as much as …And Justice For All and the black album (meaning, well received but not particularly enthusiastically like RTL and MoP). Personally I have some major resentment for it.
First of all, it’s repetitive. Being in the same key is OK, after all it’s all guitars so it’s reasonable to stick to one key. But all the chords are the same, many of the songs are the same tempo, and it just sounds like dumb repetition.
Speaking of dumb, Hetfield is way too old to be singing. He sounds like an older version of Arthur the Aardvark. I nearly had a heart attack when I heard him start singing at the beginning of “That Was Just Your Life.” Then again, I’ve hardly listened to St. Anger at all so I really don’t know what he sounded like in that miserable failure of an album.
That and, of course, it’s loud. Aggravatingly loud. Wall Street Journal and Gizmodo have already covered this way too much so I won’t rant about that here.
Finally, what happened to their phenomenal guitar solos? I mean stuff like The Call Of Ktulu, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One, and that two-minute-long bridge in Master of Puppets. To me this album sounds like people banging on guitars and drums. Sorry, but it just doesn’t remind me of the Metallica of old.
so true my friend, they’re way too overrated…they suck donkey balls.
